In the nearly 25 years since the original 5 Power Rangers first appeared on screen, there have been a number of truly incredible moments. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers in Space, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, and more kicked it off. More recently we’ve been treated to Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, Mystic Force, Jungle Fury, Samurai, Megaforce, and Ninja Steel. That’s not to mention the massively successful Power Rangers movie that came out in March of this year.
All of that is to say that if you were to come up with a list of the best moments in the history of the series, it would be a pretty tough challenge! That’s why today’s post focuses solely on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the best moments from the first couple of seasons.
And who is more qualified to tackle this list then the first Red Ranger? So without further ado, we present our favorite moments from the early days of the Power Rangers!
Rita Repulsa and the Invisibility Formula
Just fifteen episodes into the first season, the episode “Dark Warrior” took viewers on a bit of a journey. Trini Kwan--also known as the Yellow Ranger--has an uncle who is working on an invisibility formula. Rita Repulsa and crew create a Dark Warrior and her minions head to Trini's Uncle Howard's lab to steal the formula and after a series of events, the Dark Warrior kidnaps Uncle Howard and sends him to a cave. The Power Rangers transport in, take on the Putties, and save the day.
This is a unique episode and contains one of the most truly fun moments near the beginning of the series. If it’s been awhile since you’ve watched it, it’s definitely worth revisiting!
The Forming of the Original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
You might remember the formation of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the pilot of the series. This episode introduces us to many of the major players in the show--both good and bad. We get a glimpse at Rita Repulsa and Zordon as well as meeting the original 5 Power Rangers, Jason, Billy, Trini, Zack, and Kimberly.
It’s an exciting episode that manages to perfectly kick everything off and give you a feel for where the show is headed. Getting to know all of the Rangers is a blast and it sets the stage for building relationships in the future. Speaking of which...
Red Ranger vs. Green Ranger
If there’s one moment that people always remember from the beginning of the Power Rangers it’s the introduction of a mysterious Green Ranger and the faceoff that followed. An agent of Rita Repulsa, the Green Ranger initially caused quite a bit of trouble for the Power Rangers and bested the Red Ranger on two separate occasions.
The third fight, however, turned out different. After a lengthy hand-to-hand battle, the Red Ranger, with the help of his Power Sword bests the Green Ranger, freeing him from Rita Repulsa’s spell. As it turns out, the defeat of the Green Ranger proves to be positive for the Power Rangers when Tommy joins the crew thanks to the valiant efforts of Jason, the first Red Ranger who displays true leadership and exceptional fighting abilities.
